Emmaly Crimmel (b. Modesto, CA 1994)

I am an interdisciplinary artist based in Glasgow, Scotland, working in sculpture, drawing, tattoo and printmaking to engage in intricate play with host architectures. My installations intertwine objects and images from both digital and physical realms, highlighting fabricated and terrestrial patterns within human and environmental systems. I construct a tapestry of references using laboratory-like structures, incorporating elements of failure and tendril-like interconnectedness. Through the medium of assemblage, I try to channel a dream-logic, offering immersive experiences that encourage investigation.

Emmaly has exhibited internationally at The Krannert Art Museum in Illinois, The RAA Gallery in California, the Look Again Cultural Festival in Aberdeen, Scotland, and AU Galerie Brunnengasse 76 in Vienna, Austria. She was the primary assistant at The University of Illinois Art and Design 3D Fabrication Laboratories and The University of Illinois Printmaking Laboratory. Emmaly pursued her undergraduate studies at Humboldt State University in California, and Gray's School of Art in Scotland. She received recognition through a Masters of Fine Arts Creative and Performing Arts Fellowship and Graduate Teaching Scholarship at The University of Illinois, graduating in 2022. Furthermore, she taught exploratory and formal drawing courses at the University of Illinois from 2020 to 2022. She is currently re-producing a Charles Rholfs chair for her Woodcraft course at City of Glasgow College.
